NBA Cavs center Mobley out 2-4 weeks with left calf strain
Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star center Evan Mobley, the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year, will miss the next two to four weeks with a left calf strain, the team announced Saturday.
The 24-year-old American, who was selected by the Cavs with the third pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, suffered the injury in Friday's 130-126 victory at Washington.
Mobley had scored 23 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and passed off six assists over 36 minutes before leaving the game with calf tightness.
An MRI exam on Saturday revealed the extent of the injury with treatment already under way and the team announcing his expected recovery time.
Mobley leads the Cavaliers in rebounds with 9.3 a game and blocked shots with 1.6 per contest and ranks second in scoring with 19.1 points a game behind Donovan Mitchell.
The Cavs' injured list also includes Larry Nance Jr. (right calf), Jarrett Allen (right third finger), Max Strus (left foot) and Sam Merrill (right hand).
Cleveland ranks seventh in the Eastern Conference at 15-11.
Mobley had career highs of 18.5 points and 3.2 assists a game plus 9.3 rebounds a game last season.
