Italienische Astronautin übernimmt als erste Europäerin Kommando über ISS
Die italienische Astronautin Samantha Cristoforetti hat als erste europäische Frau das Kommando über die Internationale Raumstation ISS übernommen. Der russische Kosmonaut Oleg Artemjew übergab das Kommando am Mittwoch in einer Zeremonie offiziell an die Astronautin der Europäischen Weltraumagentur (ESA), wie in einer Live-Übertragung der US-Weltraumbehörde Nasa zu sehen war. "Es ist eine Ehre und ein Privileg, Europa im Weltraum auf der ISS zu vertreten", sagte die 45-Jährige.
Vor Cristoforetti hatten bereits vier andere Europäer das Kommando über die ISS: der Deutsche Alexander Gerst, der Belgier Frank De Winne, der Italiener Luca Parmitano und der Franzose Thomas Pesquet. Mit den Nasa-Astronautinnen Peggy Whitson, Sunita Williams und Shannon Walker hatten außerdem bereits drei Frauen das Kommando über die Weltraumstation.
Cristoforetti war im April zu ihrem zweiten Einsatz auf der ISS aufgebrochen. Im Juli absolvierte sie als erste Europäerin der Geschichte einen Außeneinsatz an der ISS.
Die ehemalige Luftwaffenpilotin gilt seit ihrer ersten ISS-Mission von 2014 bis 2015 als Rekordhalterin: Damals verbrachte sie fast 200 Tage im All und ist somit laut der ESA die Frau, die sich am längsten ununterbrochen im Weltraum aufgehalten hat.
Christoforetti hatte 2001 ihren Abschluss in Maschinenbau an der Technischen Universität München gemacht. Weitere Studienaufenthalte führten sie unter anderem ins französische Toulouse und nach Moskau.
